• Baymont
Dog Training is a sole proprietorship business. This means that the
person who shows up to help you train your dog is the owner of the
business.
• We train dogs of all ages - from eight-week-old puppies all the way
up to canine senior citizens. Yes, old dogs can learn new tricks!
• We have been doing business right here in San Jose since 1979. We are well known and respected in the dog community. We get
referrals from veterinarians, rescue groups, humane societies,
animal control organizations, prior clients, and even other trainers.
• We believe in motivational training, not the old-style compulsive
techniques.
• We also believe that until your dog starts writing the checks to
pay the mortgage, you get to be in charge.
• We specialize in a combination of obedience and behavioral
training.
• We provide personal training in your home. The advantages to you
are that you get 100% of your trainer’s attention, the training can
be designed to specifically meet your needs, and appointment times
can be flexible.

WHAT DO WE TEACH?
• Pack Leadership - This is the foundation upon which all training
is based. Thank goodness pack leadership techniques have evolved
tremendously since Baymont Dog Training began in 1979. You can
now be a kind and benevolent leader to your dog, not a tyrant. The
techniques are non-confrontational, based on how canines communicate
with each other.
• Basic Obedience Commands - Come when called on leash and on a long
line, walk politely on a leash, sit/stay, down/stay, stand/stay
• Good Manners - Wait at the back door to have paws wiped before
coming in, don’t run out the front door when you open it to get the
mail or let a visitor enter, a rug or bed wait when you want your
dog with you without being a nuisance
• Behavioral Issues - This category embraces a wide variety of
problems, some very easy to deal with, some difficult (and
everything in between). Included are house soiling, inappropriate
barking, destructive chewing, digging, jumping on people,
fearfulness, obnoxious bossiness, aggression toward animals,
aggression toward humans, and most anything else your dog may be
doing that doesn’t please you.
• Advanced Training - This includes off-leash obedience training for
dogs who are capable of that, brace work for people with more than
one dog, games and tricks.
• Pet Selection Counseling - Baymont Dog Training also offers a
consultation for people who want assistance choosing their next pet.
• Behavioral Consultation - The occasional dog doesn’t need a full
training program, just some help with a specific behavior problem;
one of the easier ones. This option is not available for aggression
issues, or for dogs with a lot of problems.
HOW DO WE TRAIN?
• Baymont Dog Training specializes in a combination of obedience and
behavioral training.
• We provide personal training in your home. The advantage to you is
that you get 100% of your trainer’s attention, the training can be
designed specifically to meet your needs, and appointment times can
be flexible.
• Clicker training (operant conditioning) is an available option.
• All training is motivational, not compulsive. The old-style
compulsive training basically set up a dog to fail, corrected the
failure, then rewarded success. This system does work, but it’s a
bit stressful on the dog, owner and trainer. Motivational training
works by tricking your dog into doing things correctly, then
rewarding that success. Much more fun for all of us!
• The only time your dog will receive a negative reinforcement is
for pulling a deliberately bad attitude. This means that your dog
truly knows what you’re saying, in the environment where we’re working,
with the distractions we’re using, and is belligerently refusing to
comply. Even then, the correction will be as mild as possible. We
have to get the point across, but do not want to upset your dog.
