HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
• The first lesson takes about 90 minutes. Subsequent lessons are
one hour.
• The duration of the entire training process varies. Most dogs are
signed up for a series of six lessons, roughly two weeks apart. That
may stretch out if you go on vacation, the dog gets sick, a specific
homework assignment takes longer, etc.
• Dogs who have bitten a human are signed up for a series of ten
lessons, again roughly two weeks apart.
WHEN DO WE MEET?
• Baymont Dog Training takes appointments during the day on both
Saturday and Sunday; during the day and evening on Monday and
Tuesday.
• Since the training is private, you aren’t stuck with the same day
and time for each visit. This flexibility makes it much easier to
fit training sessions into your busy schedule.
• We like to give you at least two full weeks between training
sessions. Each lesson builds on prior lessons, so it’s a better use
of your money to give you adequate time to get your current homework done thoroughly.
WHERE DO WE HOLD YOUR TRAINING SESSIONS?
• The first few lessons take place in your home. This is the easiest
place for your dog to concentrate on the training process.
• We can’t do all the lessons at home, or your dog would get
geographic and assume home is the only place where obedience is
required. Once your dog knows the basics, we head for a park,
shopping center, etc. We are deliberately
looking for situations which will provide maximum distraction for
your dog.
HOW MUCH TIME MUST YOU SPEND WORKING WITH YOUR DOG?
•
Not nearly as much as it used to take! When Baymont Dog Training
first went into business, most trainers insisted the dog be worked
for 20-30 minutes every day. At some point, it occurred to me that I didn’t do this with my own dogs. It was just too darn boring! A few
minutes here and another few minutes there actually gets the job done
more thoroughly as well as more easily and enjoyably.
• The first few training sessions are literally only three or four
minutes. As we add commands, the lessons will last a bit longer, but
very seldom will you work for more than ten minutes at a stretch
with your dog.
• When we get into the distraction phase of the training, travel
time to parks, etc. will add to your time, but the dog will still
be worked only briefly.
• Toward the end of the training, occasional longer training
sessions will take place to build up your dog's willingness to work
for longer periods.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
•
The initial six lesson obedience/behavior package costs $495,
payable in full at the end of the first visit. These first six
lessons include pack leadership, basic obedience, good manners, and
behavioral issues as described under the “What Do We Teach” heading.
If time permits, we will also do some advanced training and games.
• Extra lessons (after completion of the first six) for advanced training, games, tricks (or whatever
else you may wish to teach your dog) can be paid per visit at a cost
of $80
each.
• The initial ten lesson behavior/obedience package for a dog who
has bitten costs $945, payable in full at the beginning of the first
visit. If the trainer decides that your dog is safe after fewer than
ten visits, Baymont Dog Training will happily refund whatever money
hasn’t been used yet. Or, if the trainer decides your dog’s
aggression is irreversible, any unused money will be returned.
• Pet selection counseling is a one-shot, 90 minute session and costs
$120.
• Behavioral consultation is also usually a one-shot, 90 minute
session and costs $120.
